I am a dermatologist and oncologist in Hadassah's Inst of Oncology, and the Head of the Hadassah Cancer Research Institute. My scientific interests have been focused on the development of immunotherapies for cancer, mainly for malignant melanoma. In parallel, I have been active in basic research in tumor immunology, emphasizing T lymphocyte function and costimulatory receptors. My research closely follows the evolution in this field from active vaccination to discovering and applying immune checkpoint blockade and adoptive transfer of TCR-engineered T cells. Recent studies of my lab include characterization of the inhibitory immune receptor SLAMF6 and the discovery of the agonistic-antagonistic effects of its splicing isoforms, and of alternative splicing in lymphocytes, in general. We now develop techniques to affect splicing choices in activated T lymphocytes, to improve their anti-tumor response.
